Design a 1-stop platform that enables sports enthusiasts to view and book sports facilities, academies and playgrounds without any trouble.
The nature of the build would target Android users, early adopters, and a younger demographic. The ability to discover different sports being played in the users' vicinity and booking venues as per their convenience were the major features that were implemented and deployed in the first release.
PLATFORMS: ANDROID APP
As a brand, visual and experience designer, I was heavily involved in all phases of the project. I collaborated with Android developers to implement the design.
The storyboards helped me to further understand the user and problem space.
The storyboard below represents the journey of Gagan - a sports enthusiast who recently shifted to a new city and is interested playing a sport at the nearby sports facility.
“Gagan needs an easy way to discover sports venues near him and book them without any hassle”
As you saw in the above story, there is a need for a solution for Gagan which can help him book and discover sports facilities around him. As a part of my exploration process, I discovered that this solution lacks the engagement component which makes it good for only intermittent use.
So, the overall goal of Huddle Up was to fill the gap and introduce a couple of things: Discoverability towards sports facilities, booking these facilities, and player engagement - with player profiles, tournament stats & scores and achievement gamification . I started with a vision of Huddle Up handling everything about bookings for the user..
Become an established brand in Indian Market
Create a loyal consumer base
Establish trust and credibility through online presence
Help users' make sports a part of their daily life
I started creating the information architecture and low-fi concepts for primary use cases. After getting a go-ahead from the Product Manager, developers, and Stakeholders on the mockups, we began to conduct usability tests with the low-fidelity mockups.
Once we had confidence in the design, I began digitalizing designs.
I created this set of low-fidelity wireframes of all of the key screens and interactions to help gain the user's perspective in lesser time.
Next, I was able to synthesize the research findings & create personas and user journeys. These formed a great foundation to move into feature ideation and prioritisation phase.
The essence of this app is user's enthusiasm and attachment to sports. In sports, a huddle is an action of a team gathering together, hence the name. The logo is inspired from "huddle".
User Onboarding Experience is one of the most important aspect of this app as users'. Huddle Up was first of its kind product in the market, so it was essential to give these naive users' a good idea of what the app offers.
The app enables the users' to sign up using other platforms. After the user logs in, he is prompted to allow location access as it is one of the most important data that is required for a better user experience.
The idea was to design an intuitive booking process for the user. Since there are a number of selections that are required to be made before booking a sports venue, a well thought decision was taken to keep all the selections in a single page. Another challenge was not to overwhelm the user with multiple tasks, hence a gamified approach was adopted to make the user feel at ease with the product. This flow received positive feedback from the users during testing.
User can easy manage his bookings. The app allows them to cancel and re-book venues in just one click
The app was tested several times during the project
The prototype was shared with the rest of the team for some final feedback. HuddleUp's engineering team’s feedback was helpful in designing something that worked not only for the users, but one that was possible to create on the back-end too.
This project was challenging yet rewarding because I was able to work with the Huddle Up team to create the MVP for their product release. The product yielded successful task completions and positive feedback from the users.
